Time to talk – speaking out about mental health

So what’s this Time to Talk day business all about?  It’s about us, all of us, every last one of us.  1 in 4 people will directly experience mental health issues in their lifetime, so the chances are if you don’t experience it personally, someone close to you will.

Time to Talk day is about raising awareness, breaking down the stigma and supporting one another. If we don’t talk about it we can’t help each other. Attitudes towards mental health are changing because of campaigns like this and the work of organisations such as Heads Together and Mind.

There is still a long way to go and it all starts with talking, with having those conversations, with not being afraid to ask for help and for equipping ourselves to offer help when it’s needed. Conversations truly do save lives, think about that, the power we all have to make such a huge difference, it’s incredible. This isn’t rocket science stuff either, it’s making time to sit down and have a cuppa with someone, to drop them that message to let them know you are there, to ask them how they feel and most importantly to really listen.

Businesses and organisations in Nottingham are also doing their bit. Circle Nottingham & Doncaster & Bassetlaw hospitals NHS foundation trust have pledged to increase awareness through promoting health and wellbeing in the workplace and many more across the UK will be joining them.

In uncertain times when we might feel it’s a fight to get our voices heard this really is an area where one person can make all the difference. Join us and get talking!!!!
