This week I was invited along to a wine tasting at Veeno in Nottingham. Clearly an invite with the word wine in it was going to get a “yes please” from me. I grabbed my plus 1 and headed down there not knowing quite what to expect, we were certainly not disappointed.
The atmosphere is intimate and relaxed with loads of gorgeous decorative features like these bottle lights which I’m now imagining in my dining room.
My first impression was that this would make a great first date venue with the subtle lighting and a romantic feel but actually it’s also equally suited to larger groups. I can certainly imagine a long, lazy, laughter filled family gathering here or a visit to unwind after work. I’m sure there are many other
excuses occasions I could find to drop in.
During the evening we were treated to many glasses of delicious whites, reds and a beautiful dessert wine. Our hostess talked us through each wine and the perfect accompanying foods, the breads, the meats, the olives, the cheeses, every single one delicious.
Veeno is a family run company with venues in Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and York as well as here in Nottingham. They are keen to promote the culture of Aperitivo which I learned is a word used to describe nibbling and drinking in a relaxed and informal atmosphere with friends & family. What’s not to love?!
It’s often the case that a venue has great food and drinks but can be lacking in atmosphere or service experience or vice versa, it’s not often I come away having found a place that has a fab standard all around. The wines at Veeno were fantastic and (dangerously) very easy to drink, the food was full of flavour and beautifully presented and they have absolutely achieved a relaxed, social atmosphere. What made the experience that bit “extra” for me was the staff. Super friendly but not overbearing, really knowledgable and helpful but not too formal, just right. Special shout out to our hostess, the lovely Amanda, she made us feel instantly comfortable and we had plenty of laughs.
If you have a Veeno nearby I would highly recommend a visit for something a bit different, I will definitely be taking my mum gang along for a chilled night off 🙂
