A room of our own – bedding & bedspreads

I’m going to be brave and say it… Noah is now fairly consistently sleeping through the night, Hallelujah! Now lets hope I haven’t just jinxed it!  Up until now our odd and mismatched sleeping patterns have meant a variety of sleeping arrangements have occurred over the past 14 months.  We had planned to switch our bedroom and guest bedroom around some time ago but held off as our current bedroom, that will become the guest bedroom,  is next door to Noah’s room.  It’s been easier to stay in this room than to trek up and down another flight of stairs at 3am to see to little un.  But now that he is sleeping well we can start to think about creating the bedroom we really want.

With Valentines day fast approaching and no chance of having a romantic weekend away in some fancy country hotel the next best thing looks to be treating ourselves to an updated bedroom that we can relax in, if only for a few hours!

We decided on simple white walls with a feature wall in a lovely light teal colour.  We are sticking with the furniture we already have all of which is fairly plain and neutral, so we will be adding colour to the room using accessories.  Gold seems to go quite nicely with the feature wall colour so we have a gold mirror and some gold photo frames which we will be using.  Another way I’ve found of adding some colour and being able to change-up the look of the room quickly and relatively inexpensively is through the bed linen.  The bed is the main focal point in the room so changing the bed linen can make a huge difference to the look and feel of the room overall. Many hours of Pinteresting later and these are some of the style of fabrics I’m currently lusting after to decorate our new den ready for a Valentines staycation!

I love a good fairisle print, it makes me think of a cosy log cabin halfway up some beautiful swiss mountain.  The stairs up to our attic bedroom feel like a mountain trek sometimes.
Bonus, this set is currently on sale!

Going from Swiss chalet to a jungle safari, I love the fun but still grown up look of the elephant print on this set.  This deep red wine shade will look great with the teal feature wall and gold accessories.  This set is also on sale so I could treat us to both sets and create 2 very different looks for our room by just a change of bedding, result!  Yorkshire Linen have a large range of these superking bedspreads and quilts at a good price.

This tropical birds design from Dunelm is not my usual style as I’m not generally into quite feminine looking designs but I love the colours in this set. The piped edge on this set is a lovely detail.  I would also add the teal bedspread as an extra touch of decoration and for extra warmth!

Hope you have a happy Valentines day whatever your plans are!
